How to Care for Your Flour Sack Tea Towels
There are so many fun and creative uses for flour sack tea towels (check out a few of them here), but if you're using them in a traditional way like drying dishes and wiping spills, you might be wondering how to keep them looking and smelling their best.
Here are some tips and general info:
1. Your flour sack tea towels are washer and dryer safe. Washing them actually helps them become more absorbent!
2. Whiten your flour sack tea towels with white vinegar or non-chlorine bleaches made with hydrogen peroxide. You might be tempted to bleach them with traditional bleach, but this can actually damage the fibers in the towel and make them less effective.
3. Stay away from fabric softener. Fabric softener can get into the fibers and leave a filmy residue. This negatively impacts the absorbency of the towel.
4. Use baking soda to get rid of smells. Fill your washer with hot water and add a cup of white vinegar. After the rinse cycle completes, fill it with water again and add a half cup of baking soda. This will keep your towels smelling fresh and can also help remove stains.
Taking good care of your flour sack tea towels will lengthen the life of the towel and allow you to enjoy them for as long as possible. Whenever you're ready to add to your flour sack towel collection, you better believe that I've got you covered! Check them out here.
